Under the Juniper Tree

We have all been there! When we feel no matter what we do, it doesn't matter, nobody cares, and it won't make a difference. When we begin to look around and can't find anything to get excited about. What I am talking about is discouragement. It looms heavy over us all at various times in our lives, and robs us from seeing the good that God is doing all around us. In many cases we are making a difference in the lives of others and extending the kingdom of God, but we just can't see the positive results. If not dealt with discouragement can lead to depression. I am reminded of an incident in scripture when a very powerful prophet of God after seeing God perform a great miracle and allowing him to play an important role in it, hit rock bottom. let us read what the scripture says....

But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, "It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers."

(1Kings 19:4 ESV)

It seems it is at the moments in life when we feel we don't matter and are the least encouraged that the Holy Spirit reminds us who we are and how much God loves us. Elijah still had things to do for God, but the fear of what might happen had frozen his ability to look outside his circumstances. He could not see that God had used HIm for a purpose, and He would not allow his purpose to be accomplished in vain. I have found in almost every situation discouragement comes when we take our eyes off of what God is doing, and look at our fear and doubt. Misplaced vision brings complete confusion. If you are a Christian, God is using you if you allow Him. We don't always see the result, but we have to trust by faith that what God is doing, we are a part of, and that we need to remain positive to see it through. In the next verse God brought Elijah nourishment, which is exactly what he needed, at the exact time he needed it. God knows your battle and He is already preparing what you need for the exact moment you need it.
