Do you have greatness inside? Is there a part of you that longs to leave a mark on this world for good? I think everybody on some level wants to accomplish something in life. There may be different levels of desire for this, but in the end its all the same. Everybody wishes to impact someone else with their time in this life. Some want to leave a legacy of fame, fortune, others a good name, and still others just a legacy of effort toward something bigger than themselves. As a Christian we are called to do this very thing. I don't mean the material wealth, fame, and fortune, but, I do mean impacting others with the goodness that flows through us. Paul spoke about this a little in the scriptures, he said....
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
(Philippians 3:14)
Although I realize most people use this verse as encouragement to keep going and not to give up, I believe Paul was also saying something else. I believe he was saying finish well, leave an impact, do good to others, live to the fullest, of such is the standard of greatness. We should live our life so close to the image of Jesus, that we leave a legacy to someone. We may not ever stand on a stage, or receive an acknowledgement of how good we were, or how successful, or how much we accomplished, but we all will touch somebody. Greatness lies not in how many people you reach, but on what kind of influence you leave on those you touch. I press toward the mark of being the greatest Christian, husband, father, and servant of the Lord Jesus Christ that I can be, what about you?
