New Year, New Beginning

It's that time of year again when everyone is making New Year resolutions. Many will start new diets, begin exercise programs, and attempt to lay aside all things that have been proven to not work in their lives. The sad part to all of this is not that any of these things are bad, we just don't stick to them. We start a new diet only to find ourselves binging on the same foods we swore we were going to stay away from, or at the most enjoy in moderation. We may go out and start a new gym membership, or purchase our own exercise equipment only to see more of the couch than the gym door, and then watch the dust build up on all the new equipment we add to our home. It all comes down to this, for anything to last it takes not just a want to mentality, it takes a lifestyle change.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:

old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

(2 Corinthians 5:17)

Here is a great idea. Why not start the New Year with a resolution to honor God by being in church more this year. While I know many people will probably try to make that commitment, it's a lifestyle. It can be accomplished because Christ has made us new. If you are a child of God, a born again believer in Jesus Christ, you have the power to overcome and succeed in many areas in your life. Just like with anything else in life you will never have any success unless you change your life to accommodate your desires. As a Christian your desire should be to be more like Jesus Christ, so you should have a yearning to be with His people as much as you can, and to live your life to honor Him as much as you can. This new year can be a fresh start, why not start with God's people, in God's house, hearing God's Word.
