The Selfless Mother

I know most would agree that being a mother doesn't make someone perfect. Mothers like anyone else make their share of mistakes along the way. I would have to say though, that for every mistake made their has been the love of a thousand blessings bestowed. God has gifted mom's beyond measure, and entrusted to them a most precious task. For you see mom, you are the one who knows your child before they take their first breath in this world. You are the one who prays a million prayers for the well being of the unborn baby that has blessed your life. You are the one when that child enters this world will discipline like a warden, and then fight tooth and nail to defend them when they have messed up. You instill value and a sense of self-worth, letting them know that no matter what they do they will never outgrow the reach of your undying love for them. You give all of yourself to make your kids dreams come true, and most of the time to never hear or see the appreciation you so rightly deserve. That doesn't matter though, to you every second of prayer, pain, anger, joy, and life lessons are worth much more than riches, fame, and prestige. The bible tells us what a real woman looks like in the book of Proverbs....

She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.

She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.

Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.

(Proverbs 31:25-28)

Mom, I sure do love you." And then he took the pen and in great big ...

For the 2013-14 NBA season Kevin Durant won the most valuable player award, while playing forward for the Oklahoma City Thunder. While he was giving his acceptance speech he touched the crowd with what he had to say about, not his coach, or his trainers, or even his teammates, but what he said to his mom who was in the crowd. Here is what he said, "I don't think you know what you did. You had my brother when you were 18 years old. Three years later I came out. The odds were stacked against you. Single parent with two boys by the time you were 21 years old."Everybody told us we weren't supposed to be here. We moved from apartment to apartment by ourselves. One of the best memories I have is when we moved into our first apartment. No bed, no furniture, and we just all sat in the living room and hugged each other because we thought we made it."When something good happens to you, I don't know about you guys, but I tend to look back to what brought me here. You woke me up in the middle of the night in the summer times. Making me run up a hill. Making me do push-ups. Screaming at me from the sidelines at my games at eight or nine years old."We weren't supposed to be here. You made us believe. You kept us off the street, put clothes on our backs, food on the table. When you didn't eat, you made sure we ate. You went to sleep hungry. You sacrificed for us. You're the real MVP." Kevin's mom lived the scripture in Proverbs, and now he has raised up to call her blessed.
